Get started
What a site needs, how a board is flashed and adopted, and what the portal does once it is running.
Before you start, the honest requirements
- A desktop Chrome or Edge browser. The flasher uses Web Serial, which does not exist in Safari or Firefox, and cannot exist on iOS.
- A USB cable and physical access to each board.
- Basic low-voltage wiring competence.
- This has not been installed in the field. You would be first.
Commissioning, step by step
Plan the site
Decide addresses, hostnames and roles before touching hardware.
Addressing is static and the subnet is yours to choose; 192.168.10.0/24 is only the default the tool offers. The gateway may be left blank.
Flash the boards
Firmware, hostname, static address and credentials are written over USB from the browser in one pass.
No Arduino IDE, no toolchain, no command line.
Wire it
Zones, relays and supervision, on external breakout boards.
Supervised zones need end-of-line resistors and an analogue-capable pin, and there are a limited number of those per board.
Power up and configure
Channels are named and set from the operator dashboard, which the head end serves itself.
Every relay gets a configured safe state at this point.
Gentex Ironvex Portal
Launcher
Find and open a head end on the network.
Flasher
Write firmware over USB using Web Serial. Chrome or Edge on desktop only.
